Brentford Is Officially A Team To Fear

The Brentford Bees were the feel-good story of last season. After being promoted from the Championship to the Premier League, they not only stayed up last season but had some impressive performances along the way to a 13th-place finish.

Many football fans fell in love with the Cinderella story that was Brentford and their Moneyball approach to football. In an era of billion-dollar teams, Brentford has been able to secure wins with a less-than-rich Squad. However, unlike many teams that are promoted, Brentford does not look like there is a shot they will go down the season, and look to be much more of a force for a top-10 spot than a relegation place. This is is less of a cinderella story where the clock strikes 12 and they are found out, but more of a great side that can compete with the best teams in the world.

Looking through the stats, Brentford looks like one of the best teams in the League this season, and their current 8th-place standing in the Premier League proves those stats to be true.

They Can Score Against Anyone

Brentford’s biggest strength is how lethal they are going forward. The Bees are second in the Premier League in goals and goals per 90, only behind Manchester City in both categories. Striker Ivan Toney has been a force to reckon with this season, as he has scored five goals in just six matches. Toney is getting his teammates involved as well as he also has two assists already on the year.

Brentford makes the most of their chances as well as they have the second-highest shots-on-target percentage in the league. They have the highest goals per shot in the league and The second-lowest goal distance. It really shows that Brentford’s game is to get as close to the box as possible, and they are doing so quite often.

At that point, Brentford has proven to be lethal with their attackers, and it is not something where they are catching lightning in a bottle and it will soon run out. Thomas Frank’s system is designed to last, and so is Brentford.

They Are Battle Tested

It’s not like Brentford hasn’t faced big teams either. Brentford has drawn with Leicester City, defeated Manchester United by four goals, and defeated Leeds United last week by three goals. They’re not only beating some top teams in the Premier League, they are blowing them out.

Brentford opened last season displaying what a threat they are when they defeated Arsenal 2-0. They drew with the likes of Liverpool and defeated Chelsea. Brentford started to hit their marks around March of last season and don’t look like this season will be any different, they are a club that is continuously improving and are a force to be feared against no matter how big or small their opponents are.

Through seven matches, the Bees have only lost one game, which oddly was to Fulham, a side coming up from the Championship this season. Their defense needs to do a better job of keeping clean sheets. The defense hasn’t been perfect but with a solid goalkeeper in David Raya and the fact that they will be playing some lower-quality teams in the coming weeks, Brentford’s place could continue to rise.
